Fostering FAQ
What is required to foster?
The approval to foster is much like being approved to adopt. We require an application be filled out. Your current pets must be spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. A short home visit from one of our dedicated volunteers is also required to make sure our dogs are going into safe, loving environments. No prior experience is necessary. Our team will provide you with all the support and guidance you need.
How much does it cost to foster?
Fostering is FREE! Buffalo Underdogs Rescue supplies a crate, food, toys, leash, collar, vetting, medicine and anything else your foster dog needs. You supply the love and training!
Can I choose who adopts my foster dog?
Yes, absolutely! Our foster families play a crucial role in selecting the best forever home for their foster dog. You’ll be involved in the home visit and approval process, helping to ensure a perfect match for both the dog and the adoptive family.
How long does fostering typically last?
The length of a foster stay can vary, typically lasting a few weeks to a few months. Some dogs find their forever homes quickly, while others may wait a bit longer.
What if I can only foster for a few days at a time?
We are always in need of "foster sitters," who can provide temporary care for our dogs during short-term needs. This might be a weekend getaway for a foster family or a quick trip out of town. Your short-term care can make a big difference in a dog's life!
